Apple unveils MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for AI workflows

Apple has officially unveiled the latest generation of its professional laptop lineup with the introduction of the new MacBook Pro powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The updated models come in 14 inch and 16 inch sizes and are designed to deliver major improvements in AI processing, graphics performance, and professional workflows.

The new MacBook Pro introduces a redesigned internal structure built around what Apple calls Fusion architecture. This design integrates two circuit layers into a unified system, allowing faster CPU performance and improved energy efficiency while maintaining the portability expected from a MacBook Pro.

The laptop continues to feature a premium aluminum design and comes in two finishes: Space Black and Silver.

M5 Pro and M5 Max deliver major AI performance gains

At the center of the new lineup are the powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These processors are part of the Apple Silicon family and aim to push AI processing further than previous generations.

The top tier M5 Max configuration includes up to an 18 core CPU paired with a next generation GPU that delivers up to 50 percent faster graphics performance compared with the previous model. The architecture also integrates neural accelerators across GPU cores, helping speed up AI tasks significantly.

Apple states that AI processing can reach up to eight times faster performance compared with systems using the earlier M1 generation. This improvement enables complex tasks such as training machine learning models, processing large datasets, and running advanced creative workflows directly on the device.

Massive memory bandwidth and storage upgrades

The MacBook Pro also introduces major improvements in unified memory capacity and bandwidth. The system supports up to 128GB of unified memory with bandwidth reaching 614GB per second.

These specifications allow professionals to handle heavy tasks such as large language model processing, high resolution video editing, and complex 3D rendering without slowdown.

Storage speeds have also improved dramatically. The internal SSD can deliver read and write speeds up to 14.5GB per second, roughly double the performance of earlier models.

For storage capacity, the MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chip now starts at 1TB, while configurations powered by the M5 Max begin with 2TB of storage.

Liquid Retina XDR display and professional media features

The laptops feature the advanced Liquid Retina XDR display with peak brightness reaching 1,600 nits. Apple also offers an optional nano texture glass layer designed to reduce reflections when working in bright environments.

Battery life also reaches new levels. Apple claims the MacBook Pro can run for up to 24 hours on a single charge, setting a new endurance record for the series.

Connectivity also improves with the addition of the Apple N1 chip, which supports Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The laptops include three Thunderbolt 5 ports and can drive up to four external displays on models powered by the M5 Max chip.

Other features include a 12MP Center Stage camera and a six speaker audio system designed to deliver studio quality sound. The system runs on macOS Tahoe and fully supports Apple Intelligence features.

According to John Ternus, the new MacBook Pro redefines performance for professional laptops. He emphasized that the device can run large language models locally while maintaining strong energy efficiency.

The MacBook Pro lineup is expected to launch soon. Pricing begins at approximately $1,580 for the 14 inch model, $2,080 for the M5 Pro configuration, and around $3,750 for the 16 inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 Max chip.
