Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly remake demo now available

Fans of survival horror can now experience the beginning of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake thanks to a newly released free demo.

Koei Tecmo has officially made the demo available across all platforms, giving players a chance to explore the opening segment of the remake before its full release.

Try the opening chapter of the game

The demo allows players to experience roughly 30 minutes of gameplay from the early part of the story.

The preview begins with the journey of sisters Mio Amakura and Mayu Amakura as they travel through a forest and eventually arrive at the mysterious Minakami Village.

Soon after arriving, they begin encountering vengeful spirits that haunt the abandoned village.

Players will be able to test several core mechanics during the demo, including the iconic Camera Obscura, a supernatural camera used to capture and defeat ghosts.

Updated visuals and signature mechanics

The remake rebuilds the original horror classic with upgraded visuals and modern presentation while maintaining the eerie atmosphere that made the game famous.

Players will also experience one of the game’s signature mechanics: the ability for Mio to hold Mayu’s hand while running, a system that reinforces the emotional bond between the two sisters and plays an important role throughout the story.

The environments, lighting, and ghost encounters have all been enhanced to deliver a more immersive horror experience.

Save data can transfer to the full game

Another useful feature is that players who complete the demo can transfer their save data to the full version of the game.

This means progress made during the demo can continue directly once the full release becomes available.
