Assassin’s Creed Unity gets surprised 60FPS upgrade

Ubisoft has released a new performance update for Assassin’s Creed Unity, finally allowing the game to run at 60FPS on modern consoles including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The update arrives more than a decade after the game originally launched and addresses one of the most requested improvements from fans.

A long requested frame rate upgrade

Originally released in 2014 during the transition from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One era, Assassin’s Creed Unity was widely recognized for pushing graphical technology at the time.

The game showcased a detailed recreation of Paris during the French Revolution, featuring massive crowds of NPCs moving through the streets in real time.

However, despite its technical ambition, the game remained locked at 30FPS, even when played on newer consoles through backward compatibility.

With the latest patch, players who already have the game installed will now experience smoother gameplay thanks to 60FPS performance support.

Celebrating the future of the franchise

The update was also mentioned in a blog post discussing the future of the Assassin’s Creed series.

According to comments from Jean Guesdon, a content lead within the franchise, Ubisoft continues to support the brand while developing new projects across multiple platforms.

Upcoming titles in development include:

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows
  • Assassin’s Creed Hexe
  • Assassin’s Creed Invictus
  • Assassin’s Creed Jade

The blog post highlighted ongoing plans for the franchise as it continues to evolve across console, PC, and mobile platforms.

Free trial event coming soon

To celebrate the update, Ubisoft also announced a special free trial period for Assassin’s Creed Unity on Xbox Series X|S.

Players will be able to try the updated version of the game between April 2 and April 6, giving newcomers a chance to experience the improved performance.

A look back at Assassin’s Creed Unity

Set during the French Revolution between 1789 and 1794, Assassin’s Creed Unity follows the story of Arno Dorian, a member of the Assassin Brotherhood seeking revenge after the murder of his adoptive father.

The game blends open world exploration, stealth mechanics, and parkour-based traversal throughout a detailed recreation of Paris.

Unity also introduced cooperative multiplayer missions, allowing players to complete special objectives together online.

With the new 60FPS update now available, returning players and newcomers alike can revisit one of the most technically ambitious Assassin’s Creed titles with a smoother experience than ever before.
