Steam Machine May Launch at an Estimated USD 699 or Around 900 SGD

When considering the hardware build, the jump from standard consoles may not be too high.

Steam Machine continues to gain attention after Valve unveiled a new line of Steam hardware designed to create a seamless gaming ecosystem. Among these new devices, Steam Machine stands out as a compact gaming PC designed to function much like a high-utility console. This naturally raised questions about pricing, especially since Valve hinted that it might not fall into the familiar USD 400 to 500 range seen in most mainstream consoles.

A recent estimate from Linus Tech Tips on YouTube offers an interesting look at what the final pricing could be. With the official specs now available, he evaluated each component individually and suggested the device may debut at USD 699, which converts to around 900 SGD. Compared to today’s console market, this positions Steam Machine slightly higher, yet still within a reasonable range similar to how Steam Deck approached its original launch pricing.

He also highlighted that although the projected price is USD 699, the combined retail value of its internal components totals roughly USD 910. This difference implies that Valve may rely on more cost-effective sourcing for mass production, ensuring that the device remains competitive without sacrificing performance. Since large-scale component procurement differs greatly from retail pricing, it becomes feasible for hardware makers to deliver more powerful systems at a lower consumer price. Fans will need to wait for official confirmation to see if these projections hold true.

Steam Machine features a compact square chassis equipped with an enhanced AMD Zen 4 processor clocking up to 4.8GHz, an AMD RDNA3 GPU reaching up to 2.545GHz, 16GB RAM, and storage options of either 512GB or 1TB SSD. The device runs on SteamOS, enabling fast compatibility adjustments for Windows-based titles, with the added flexibility for users to install other operating systems if they prefer.
