Google Plans to Expand AirDrop-Like File Sharing to More Android Devices
Google is preparing to break down one of the longest-standing barriers between Android and Apple ecosystems. After generating buzz in 2025 by enabling Pixel 10 devices to exchange files directly with Apple products via AirDrop compatibility, Google has now confirmed that this feature will soon be available on more Android smartphones, not just Pixel models.
The announcement was made by Eric Kay, Vice President of Android Engineering, during a press briefing in Taipei. According to Kay, Google is actively working with hardware partners to expand cross-platform file sharing throughout the broader Android ecosystem in 2026.

Currently, Pixel 10 users can use Quick Share to send photos and files directly to iPhone, iPad, and MacBook devices. The process is simple: Android users set visibility to “Everyone” for 10 minutes, while Apple users enable AirDrop with the same visibility settings. Once enabled, file transfers happen almost instantly.
