Siri Gets Massive AI Overhaul in iOS 27 Update

Siri Prepares for a Massive AI Overhaul in iOS 27 Following Apple’s Secret “Project Campos”

This is arguably Apple’s most highly anticipated move in years. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Siri is about to receive a complete overhaul in iOS 27 and macOS 27. The major highlight is that Siri will finally get its own standalone application, alongside a new “Ask Siri” feature that transforms it from a simple voice-command assistant into a fully-fledged AI chatbot capable of natural interactions, much like ChatGPT or Gemini.

The true brilliance of this new Siri version, developed under the codename Campos, lies in its ability to access and analyze the user’s personal data across various apps—such as messages, emails, and notes—to execute commands with incredible precision. For example, you can tell Siri to find an address a friend just sent you in a chat and instantly save it to their contact card. Alternatively, you can ask it to edit a specific photo in the Photos app and seamlessly email it to someone else without ever having to manually switch between apps.

Regarding the new interface, reports suggest that Apple is testing a much more modern design. Siri might be relocated to the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. When activated, a “Search or Ask” text bar will appear, allowing users to interact via typing or speaking. While the system processes the answer, a clear “Searching” indicator will be displayed. This shift is a direct response to the modern AI trend that prioritizes fluid conversational interactions and deep contextual understanding.

Despite Apple’s AI development projects facing multiple delays in the past, it is becoming increasingly clear that a powerful language model will be the driving force behind Siri 2.0. Reports indicate that Apple is investing heavily to utilize a custom-tailored large language model boasting up to 1.2 trillion parameters. This massive investment ensures that Siri can perform highly complex tasks and deeply understand user intentions.

What to Expect at WWDC 2026

For those eager to see the real deal, mark your calendars for WWDC 2026, scheduled between June 8-12. Apple is fully expected to unveil iOS 27 and showcase the new Siri’s capabilities on the very first day.

Beyond the AI integration, iOS 27 is also being positioned as an operating system heavily focused on stability and bug fixes—reminiscent of the legendary Snow Leopard era. This is a strategic move to restore user confidence after previous versions encountered frequent, annoying glitches.

However, no matter how exciting these features sound, tech gurus are advising fans to keep their expectations in check. If the development process hits any roadblocks, we might see these features rolled out gradually rather than all at once. Still, Apple’s decision to shift Siri into a standalone app that supports text-based chatbot interactions is a very strong signal that they are serious about reclaiming their throne as the ultimate tech leader. Die-hard iPhone fans absolutely cannot miss this massive mid-year update.
