The biggest buyout in gaming history shakes up the industry

The global gaming landscape has been rocked as Electronic Arts (EA) officially announced it has reached an agreement to be acquired by a consortium of major investors, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The landmark deal is valued at approximately $55 billion USD (around 1.7 trillion THB), making it one of the largest acquisitions in video game history.

EA Officially Acquired

Under the terms of the agreement, the investor group will purchase 100% of EA’s shares in an all-cash transaction. Existing shareholders will receive $210 (around 6,700 THB) per share, a 25% premium over the closing share price on September 25, 2025, and significantly higher than EA’s all-time high of $179.01 (about 5,700 THB) per share.

In an official statement, Andrew Wilson, CEO and President of EA, praised the creative teams behind the company’s world-class games and franchises. He emphasized that this acquisition is a testament to their achievements and reaffirmed EA’s commitment to driving innovation across entertainment, sports, and technology to deliver transformative experiences for future generations.

Egon Durban, Co-CEO of Silver Lake, called EA a global leader in interactive entertainment, particularly highlighting the strength of its sports franchises. He noted that under Wilson’s leadership, EA has doubled its revenue, nearly tripled EBITDA, and increased its market value fivefold, underscoring the company’s robust long-term potential.

The acquisition has already been approved by EA’s board of directors and is expected to close in Q1 of fiscal year 2027. Once finalized, EA will be delisted from the stock exchange but will continue to operate from its headquarters in Redwood City, California, with Andrew Wilson remaining as CEO.

This trillion-baht acquisition marks a major turning point not only for EA but also for the entire gaming industry. With massive new backing from powerful investors, the biggest question now is whether EA will continue to deliver the quality and innovation that fans around the world expect. One thing is certain — gamers everywhere will be watching closely as the next chapter of EA’s story unfolds.
