Team Confirms Marvel Rivals is in Development for Nintendo Switch 2
While it might not be brought up often, NetEase has successfully developed games for the Nintendo Switch before, such as Knives Out, which gained massive popularity in Japan. It seems the highly anticipated project Marvel Rivals—which the team had discussed bringing to the “red-themed” gaming company’s platform last year—might be delivering good news soon, as IGN recently had the chance to interview a key figure involved.
Danny Koo, Director of Production at Marvel Games, who handles licensing the game to NetEase for the development of this hit online shooter, revealed in an interview with the international gaming media outlet that they are currently working on the development. He noted that if there is any substantial progress, they will make an official announcement. Before concluding, he definitively stated that they are absolutely making this version; however, it will be strictly limited to the Nintendo Switch 2. This is not entirely surprising, given the necessity for better processing power than the predecessor.
He further confirmed that, regarding the handheld market, the focus right now is solely on the Nintendo Switch 2, and they will absolutely not develop the game for smartphone devices. If an opportunity ever arises to develop a mobile version, it would have to be a completely restructured format or a different game entirely, not the Marvel Rivals we currently know. Regardless, fans are cheering the development team on to push this version out so we can play it soon.
The primary challenge moving forward appears to be adapting the gaming experience to the architecture of the Nintendo Switch 2. This is due to its ARM-based processing system, which differs significantly from the x86-64 group found in the standard devices we play on today. At the same time, the Switch 2’s standout features, such as portability and touch screen integration, might be utilized.
