Nintendo Switch Sports Resort’s Mii Characters Look Hilariously Weird

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Mii characters have become the latest topic of discussion among Nintendo fans after a Japanese magazine preview revealed an unusual redesign. Instead of the familiar proportions seen in older Wii titles, the returning avatars appear to have extremely long legs and much shorter torsos, leading to plenty of jokes across social media.
Fans Notice the Unusual Mii Proportions
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort brings Mii characters back as fully playable avatars rather than simply placing Mii faces on modern Sports Mate bodies. However, screenshots from a Japanese promotional magazine quickly caught players’ attention for an unexpected reason.
The returning Mii models feature the classic round hands, colored shirts, and black pants that longtime Nintendo fans remember. Unfortunately, the updated body proportions make them look noticeably taller, with unusually long legs that many players described as both hilarious and slightly unsettling.
Images of the redesigned characters quickly spread online, with fans joking that the new Mii designs looked “cursed” compared to their original Wii counterparts.

Why Do They Look So Different?
The unusual appearance is likely the result of Nintendo adapting the classic Mii model to fit the newer character scale used in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.
Unlike the original Wii Sports games, the new title uses modern player models with different proportions. To make Mii characters compatible with those animations, Nintendo appears to have stretched their bodies rather than keeping their original dimensions.
While the result surprised many fans, others believe it was simply a necessary design compromise.
A Return to Wuhu Island
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort takes players back to the iconic Wuhu Island, the setting first introduced in Wii Sports Resort. The game expands the sports lineup to 12 activities, including archery, table tennis, jet skiing, boxing, bowling, and tennis.
Players can choose between creating a modern avatar or using a classic Mii while enjoying improved motion controls powered by the Joy-Con 2 controllers on Nintendo Switch 2.
Whether Nintendo offers additional customization options before launch remains to be seen, but the unexpectedly tall Mii characters have already become one of the game’s first viral moments.
