Sony PS5 Japan Only Model Coming to Japan

Sony is preparing a PlayStation 5 Japan Only Model, a version designed specifically for the Japanese market, similar to the business model of the recently released Nintendo Switch 2. Reports from TV Tokyo reveal that Sony approved this project within just four months after assessing the local market situation.
The Japan Only model will be priced approximately 30% lower than the standard PS5 in Japan and will feature Japanese menus exclusively. It will also only support PSN accounts registered in Japan, making it ideal for users who intend to play exclusively within the country. The starting price is around 359 USD.

The current PS5 in Thailand starts at around 485 USD for the All-Digital Edition and Around 355 USD for the standard version. The console features an AMD Zen 2 8-core, 16-thread processor, high-speed SSD storage, and the DualSense controller with Haptic Feedback for smooth and immersive gameplay. The redesigned smaller PS5 version is also already available.
Sony’s decision to release the Japan Only model has dual motivations: adjusting the price to match Japan’s current economic situation and boosting PS5 sales in its home country, where sales have not been as strong despite global shipments exceeding 80 million units. This localized approach demonstrates Sony’s strategic adaptation to the Japanese market.
