The annual viral word awards by Dwango and Pixiv have revealed the top 100 trending terms of 2025, reflecting Japan’s internet culture over the past year. Dominating the list is Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which claims an impressive 20 entries equivalent to 20% of the entire list making it the single franchise with the most nominations.

The 2025 viral word list is compiled from Nico Nico Pedia and Pixiv Encyclopedia traffic statistics, giving it credibility among Japanese netizens as a “truer” reflection of online trends than mainstream media rankings. According to the data, Gundam GQuuuuuuX became the most influential anime of the year, with 20 keywords nominated far surpassing all other franchises combined.
The popularity of GQuuuuuuX has been sustained throughout the year. Its theatrical release in January brought high revenue for Bandai Namco, while Studio Khara’s adaptation presented a fresh interpretation of the original 1979 series. Packed with references to the classic, each new episode quickly becomes a hot topic online.
Most of the nominated words are character names, Mobile Suits, and Mobile Armors featured in the series. The full top 100 list is currently arranged alphabetically, with winners set to be announced at the Pixiv and Dwango awards on December 11 an event that fans are eagerly awaiting.

When she meets Nyann, a war refugee, Amate becomes involved in illegal Mobile Suit battles called Clan Battles.
