After the premium-priced Ayaneo Pocket DMG left retro gaming fans hesitant, Ayaneo has returned with the Pocket Vert, a vertically styled handheld console inspired by the classic Game Boy. This new model aims to be more accessible with a wallet-friendly price while retaining solid performance.
The Pocket Vert is available for early bird pre-orders at $269 USD, significantly lower than the Pocket DMG’s $449 USD launch price. To achieve this price reduction, Ayaneo has adjusted certain specs, including swapping the OLED screen for a 3.5-inch LCD panel and removing higher-tier memory options.
Despite the lower price, build quality remains premium, featuring a CNC-machined metal body with a minimalist design and unmarked buttons, giving it a sleek look similar to the Analogue Pocket. The 3.5-inch LCD screen offers 1,600 x 1,440 resolution, delivering crisp visuals in a compact, vertical form factor.
Under the hood, the Pocket Vert is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, capable of running emulators up to PlayStation 2-era games, and even some Nintendo Switch titles. A hidden touchpad beneath the main controls functions as temporary analog sticks, maintaining the clean vertical design without compromising usability.
Additional features include a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button for security, USB-C connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD slot for expandable storage. These features make the Pocket Vert highly flexible compared to other handheld devices in its price range.
The Indiegogo campaign for Pocket Vert will launch soon, providing the lowest pricing before the standard retail price rises to $339 USD. A special Lava Red edition with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage will also be available exclusively during the crowdfunding period, starting at $369 USD perfect for retro gaming enthusiasts looking for a high-spec portable console.
