Collaborations

ConcernedApe reveals he won’t accept any revenue from the Stardew Valley x Infinity Nikki collaboration.

Over the more than 10 years since Stardew Valley was released, it has regularly collaborated with other games. However, the recent announcement during Gamescom 2025 is particularly special because it brings together another cozy-style game, Infinity Nikki, which has also released its first teaser video. Both of these games, of course, have very large player bases and generate tremendous revenue.

However, recently, amid fans’ curiosity, ConcernedApe, the game’s developer, has directly revealed the background regarding small fees or revenue from licensing Stardew Valley for collaboration in various events. He confirmed that he has never received money or charged licensing fees in cases where someone requested a collaboration. He also feels that simply earning from game sales is sufficient.

He further explained that the only factor in deciding to collaborate with other brands is his personal enjoyment of the game. In this case, since he already liked Infinity Nikki, he immediately approved the collaboration. He is also confident that other players will be happy and enjoy the partnership as well. This reflects a down-to-earth perspective without any ambition—he does it purely out of passion.

That said, we likely won’t see many updates for the farming game for now, as ConcernedApe is focusing on developing Haunted Chocolatier first.

On the other hand, Stardew Valley is a 16-bit farming simulation game where players take on the role of a novice farmer who escapes the chaos of city life to start a new life in a peaceful valley alongside a variety of neighbors. The game features marriage, monster battles, and online play, allowing players to cooperate with friends in various activities. It is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and smartphones.

Final Thought

Eric Barone’s decision to forgo financial gain from collaborations underscores a refreshing perspective in the gaming industry, where passion and player experience take precedence over profit. This approach not only fosters goodwill among fans but also sets a commendable example for other developers to prioritize creativity and community over commercialization.
