Former Red Dead Redemption 2 Developer Never Expected Players to Find the Spider Web Mystery

Late last year, fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 were especially excited after a group of players uncovered a newly discussed mystery involving spider web symbols hidden throughout the game world. The discovery quickly turned into a community-wide investigation, with players praising the developers for successfully concealing secrets for more than seven years. Until recently, however, there had been no official confirmation on whether this mystery was intentional or simply a case of collective speculation.
That changed when Adam Butterworth, a former Quality Assurance team member at Rockstar Games, reposted the viral discussion and expressed his surprise at the discovery. He confirmed that he had previously heard about the spider web mystery during development and genuinely believed it would never be found by players. While he did not elaborate further, his reaction effectively confirmed that the puzzle was a deliberate secret placed by the development team and managed to remain unnoticed for an exceptionally long time.
“Absolutely wild people have found this. I remember hearing about this and thinking it would never be discovered 😂”

For those unfamiliar with the spider web mystery, players discovered that certain telegraph poles scattered across the game world occasionally display spider web symbols during specific nighttime windows. When the locations of these symbols are mapped out, they point toward another hidden location within the game. Since telegraph poles are rarely objects players stop to examine closely, and the symbols only appear briefly, it is understandable how this detail went unnoticed for years.
On the other hand, Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game serves as a prequel to the original title and follows the journey of outlaw Arthur Morgan, portraying his life and struggles within a harsh and unforgiving frontier society. The game also features Red Dead Online, allowing players to create their own characters and explore the vast cowboy-era world together with friends.
As always, This Is Game SEA will continue to share more interesting discoveries and stories from the gaming world in future updates.
