Arknights: Endfield Pauses PayPal Payments After Major Billing Glitch

Arknights: Endfield, the highly anticipated sequel from Hypergryph, ran into a major issue on its launch day. A PayPal payment system glitch caused numerous players to be charged incorrectly. Some were billed without receiving in-game items, while in the most severe cases, payments were charged from one account to another across different regions.
Reports indicate the impact ranged from a few dollars up to $3,300 USD. The glitch also caused transactions to occur in multiple currencies, even when the player’s account was not registered in those countries, highlighting unprecedented cross-account payment errors.
In response, Hypergryph temporarily disabled PayPal payments to investigate and upgrade the system. The developer issued an official apology to all Endministrators (players) and recommended avoiding PayPal transactions for now, suggesting alternative payment methods remain available and safe.

Refunds and Compensation
Hypergryph confirmed that all erroneous transactions would be fully refunded within hours. Additionally, the team may provide in-game compensation items to apologize for the disruption during the launch day, a common practice in gacha-style games to maintain player trust.
This incident serves as a costly lesson in managing large-scale online payment systems, even for major developers. Despite the game being praised for its graphics and deep gameplay mechanics, financial security concerns could affect player confidence in linking credit cards or payment accounts in the future.
Advice for Thai Players
Players in Thailand who participated in the launch are advised to check their transaction history carefully. If any unauthorized charges are detected, they should contact customer support immediately with proof of payment to ensure prompt resolution before the issue escalates.
