Pokémon Winds & Waves brings new region in Gen 10

Pokémon Winds & Waves officially revealed as Generation 10

Game Freak officially unveiled Pokémon Winds & Waves during the Pokémon Presents broadcast celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The new title will mark the beginning of Generation 10 and is scheduled to launch in 2027.

The game will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, delivering a full next generation experience built beyond the foundations established in Scarlet and Violet.

Meet the new starter trio

Generation 10 introduces three brand new starter Pokémon:

  • Browt, a Grass type bird Pokémon
  • Pombon, a Fire type dog Pokémon
  • Gecqua, a Water type gecko Pokémon

These three companions will serve as players’ partners at the beginning of their journey. In addition, familiar Pokémon such as Wailord, Pikachu, and Krabby were spotted in the reveal footage.

The presentation also teased new variations of Pikachu, including Windychu and Wavychu, though official details remain unconfirmed.

Next generation presentation

Pokémon Winds & Waves showcased noticeable graphical upgrades compared to previous entries. Environmental lighting, water rendering, and large scale open environments appeared more refined. Therefore, expectations are high for a smoother and more immersive open world experience on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

However, development remains ongoing. As a result, fans will need to wait until 2027 for the full release.

Generation 10 signals a major milestone for the franchise, and Winds & Waves appears poised to usher in a new era of exploration across sea and sky.
