Resident Evil Revelations Remake Allegedly Cancelled

Rumor: Resident Evil Revelations Remake Was Allegedly in the Works but Ultimately Cancelled
Before the Resident Evil franchise returned to its pure survival horror roots starting with the seventh installment, many fans fondly remember Resident Evil Revelations. Born as a spin-off, it successfully delivered a classic horror experience right in the middle of the franchise’s most action-heavy era (Resident Evil 5 and 6). Its popularity even spawned a highly successful sequel that brought Claire Redfield back into the spotlight.
Currently, the events of the Revelations series are still considered part of the original game universe, as they have not yet been touched by the RE Engine remake treatment. However, recent rumors suggest that things almost went differently.
Dusk Golem’s Claims
Known industry leaker Dusk Golem recently shared an interesting hypothesis regarding the franchise’s direction. He claimed that Capcom actually had concrete intentions to dust off Resident Evil Revelations and give it a full modern remake. Unfortunately, according to his sources, the development of this specific project has been completely cancelled.
Dusk Golem firmly stated that the only classic titles currently sitting in Capcom’s active remake pipeline are Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, the original Resident Evil 1, and Resident Evil 0.
The Rise of Koshi Nakanishi
While Dusk Golem built a strong reputation for accurate leaks during the Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 2 Remake eras, some fans feel his recent track record has been slightly less consistent. Therefore, as with all rumors, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
However, an interesting observation tied to this rumor revolves around Koshi Nakanishi, the original director of Revelations. Nakanishi has effectively become the primary driving force behind the modern franchise, having directed the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 and taking the helm for the highly anticipated Resident Evil Requiem.
About Resident Evil Revelations
Originally released in 2012, Revelations filled in the narrative gaps during the early formation of the BSAA.
- The Mission: Jill Valentine is deployed to investigate the sudden disappearance of Chris Redfield.
- The Setting: The investigation takes place aboard the eerie, abandoned luxury cruise ship, the Queen Zenobia.
- The Threat: Players are introduced to the terrifying T-Abyss virus and become entangled in the dark conspiracies surrounding the Terragrigia Panic.
Due to its massive success, the game was eventually ported to modern platforms, including the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
