Tekken 8 Roger Jr Meme Reveal Delivers a Hilarious Kangaroo Punch Tribute

The Tekken 8 Roger Jr meme reveal has become one of the funniest highlights from the game’s latest character rollout, as Bandai Namco Entertainment used the famous kangaroo punch meme as inspiration for Roger Jr.’s return.

Gameplay for Bob has already been officially revealed as the next returning character in Tekken 8 Season 3, following the younger version of Kunimitsu from the previous entry.

After Bob, the next character lined up is Roger Jr., who is finally returning to the series for the first time in around 15 years. At the end of Bob’s trailer, fans were also shown a look at Roger Jr.’s in-game model.

However, Bandai Namco Entertainment took the promotion even further by turning Roger Jr.’s tease into a playful reference to a viral meme.

Tekken 8 Roger Jr Meme Scene Recreates the Famous Kangaroo Punch

In the clip, Roger Jr.’s mother kangaroo is seen putting Sugar, the bulldog owned by Leroy Smith, in a headlock.

Leroy then runs in and punches the kangaroo in the face to save his pet.

During the reveal at EVO 2026, the scene received loud cheers from fans. The reaction was not only because Roger Jr. is a long-missed character, but also because the scene clearly parodies the famous real-life meme of a man running up and punching a kangaroo.

The reference goes even deeper because Leroy is shown wearing a blue checkered shirt similar to the one seen in that viral clip.

Based on how the scene was presented, it is expected to be a special intro when Roger Jr. faces Leroy in battle.

Katsuhiro Harada Shared the Story Behind the Reference

Later, Katsuhiro Harada, the former key figure behind Tekken who had stepped away earlier this year, shared more information about how this idea came together.

According to Harada, the decision to bring Roger Jr. back began around September last year. At that time, he sent the team a YouTube link to the famous video because he wanted the team to recreate it.

He also mentioned that some younger team members had never seen the original meme before.

Although Harada was not personally involved in editing the final video, the idea eventually became a real intro. He expressed appreciation for everyone involved, including Kohei Ikeda, who was overseeing the work at that time.

About Tekken 8

Tekken 8 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with Thai language support included.

The game continues the story of Jin Kazama as he pursues Kazuya Mishima, his war-hungry father who took the life of his grandfather.

The game is still developed using Unreal Engine and features fast-paced 3D fighting built around strategy and aggressive combat.

One of its major gameplay highlights is the new Heat System, which pushes battles toward more intense offensive play.

At this point, Tekken 8 has already entered its third season. The season begins with Kunimitsu, followed by Bob, who will become playable soon.

Roger Jr. is expected to return sometime between October and December, while the final announced crossover character for next year is Yujiro Hanma.

The Tekken 8 Roger Jr meme reveal is a smart and hilarious way to bring back a character that longtime fans have missed for years. For SEA fighting game fans, this kind of playful detail makes Season 3 feel more memorable, especially when a character return is paired with a meme that many players instantly recognize.
