Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Shuts Down in China, Global Version Officially Cancelled

Just months after its highly anticipated reveal, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile has reached an unfortunate conclusion. Square Enix and Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios have officially announced that the mobile MMORPG will cease operations in China on September 30, while confirming that the planned global version has also been permanently cancelled.

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Ends Service

According to the development team, the decision was made due to business operations and changing market conditions. Square Enix and Tencent have mutually agreed to terminate their licensing agreement, resulting in the cancellation of both the Chinese service and the game’s planned worldwide launch.

The developers thanked players for supporting the game throughout its short lifespan, expressing appreciation for the community that formed around the project and describing the experience as a treasured memory.

Service Shutdown Schedule

Although the game remains downloadable for existing users, new account registrations have already been disabled. Premium currency purchases have also been permanently closed.

Following the game’s shutdown on September 30, additional online services will gradually be discontinued. Customer support and the official community forum are scheduled to close on October 15, giving existing players a short period to revisit the game before its permanent closure.

About Final Fantasy XIV Mobile

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile was an officially licensed MMORPG jointly developed by Square Enix and Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios under the supervision of Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida.

Set within the world of Eorzea, the mobile adaptation introduced an original storyline where Warriors of Light embarked on a new journey to protect the sacred crystals from the forces of darkness. The game featured nine starting Jobs that players could freely switch between, along with large-scale online multiplayer content inspired by the globally successful MMORPG.

Unfortunately, despite the franchise’s popularity, the mobile adaptation will now end before reaching audiences outside China, bringing development and future expansion plans to a complete halt.
