Sony Celebrates 30 Years of PlayStation With a 400-Page Photobook Releasing in 2026

Sony Interactive Entertainment is celebrating three decades of gaming history with the announcement of PlayStation: The First 30 Years, an exclusive hardcover photobook that pays tribute to the brand’s journey that forever transformed the gaming industry. Scheduled for release in Spring 2026, this 400-page collector’s edition showcases rare, never-before-seen images, concept sketches, and behind-the-scenes insights from the people who built the PlayStation legacy.

Created in collaboration with Read-Only Memory, the book captures the visual evolution of PlayStation from its very first console in 1994 all the way to the PlayStation 5. It offers an unprecedented look at early console prototypes that never left research labs, original hardware sketches, and experimental models that eventually shaped the iconic consoles loved by millions worldwide.

Adding even more depth to the experience, the photobook includes commentary and exclusive interviews with key figures who defined PlayStation’s identity, including Ken Kutaragi, known as the “Father of PlayStation,” influential hardware designer Teiyu Goto, and Yujin Morisawa, the visionary behind the PlayStation 5’s modern design. Their stories shed light on the creative decisions and technical challenges that shaped one of the most iconic gaming platforms in history.

Two editions of the photobook will be available:

  • Standard Edition – $125 (approx. 4,000 THB): Includes a large-format hardcover book with over 400 pages of rare images and content.
  • Deluxe Edition – $325 (approx. 10,500 THB): Limited to 1,994 copies, this premium version comes in a special clamshell box with a unique exposed spine design and includes an exclusive art print unavailable in the standard edition.

The stunning visuals are captured by renowned photographer Benedict Redgrove, known for NASA: Past and Present Dreams of the Future (2019). Art direction and design are led by Michael C. Place and Nicole Motby of Studio.Build, with Place recognized for his work on the visual identity of the iconic WipEout game series.

More than just a book, PlayStation: The First 30 Years is a cultural artifact — a visual chronicle of how PlayStation became a defining force in entertainment, innovation, and interactive storytelling. For fans and collectors, it is not only a tribute to gaming’s past but also a work of art that celebrates the passion, creativity, and technological breakthroughs that continue to shape the future of play.
