Ghost of Yōtei Map Comparison: How Much Bigger Is It Than Ghost of Tsushima?

Ghost of Yōtei vs Ghost of Tsushima: Which Map Is Bigger?
Samurai game fans in Southeast Asia are watching closely as new details emerge about Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, which promises the largest map Sucker Punch has ever created. However, a closer comparison reveals that while Ghost of Yōtei’s world is indeed larger, the difference is not as dramatic as it seems instead, the developers cleverly designed the environment to make players feel like the game world is vastly more expansive.
A Bigger Map, But Not by Much

The story of Ghost of Yōtei takes place on Ezo Island, known today as Hokkaido, which in real life is much larger than Tsushima. Although the in-game map hasn’t been scaled up unrealistically, players will still notice a clear sense of expanded exploration.
The map is divided into six major regions. The first two are connected and serve as a central hub for seamless travel, while the remaining four are separated into distinct sub-areas that each feel vast and unique.
In comparison, Ghost of Tsushima was divided into three main regions. If we combine the two largest zones of Yōtei, the total size surpasses the main Tsushima map. But when you include the Iki Island DLC, the two games are roughly similar in size with Yōtei still slightly larger overall.
A New Era of Samurai Adventure
Ghost of Yōtei was first announced in 2024 and is set to deliver an entirely new experience with fresh characters, a gripping storyline, and a stunning new region of Japan to explore. Taking place 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, the standalone adventure unfolds in rural northern Japan during the 1600s. Players will follow Atsu, a lone mercenary on a quest for revenge, as she travels through beautiful yet treacherous landscapes in pursuit of those who murdered her family years ago.
