Opera Launches Neon: The Agentic AI Browser That Automates Everything

Opera Unveils Neon AI Browser with Agentic Intelligence — A New Challenger in the AI Browser Wars
Opera has officially launched Neon, an AI-first browser built around agentic intelligence, a concept where AI doesn’t just respond to commands but understands user intent and acts autonomously. Announced on September 30, 2025, Neon is more than a search tool. It’s designed as a personal assistant capable of building applications from simple commands, saving them as reusable workflows called Cards.
At its core, Neon allows users to interact naturally with an AI chatbot to search, summarize articles, retrieve data from websites, posts, or videos, and even assist with research by pulling and analyzing information from previous tabs. It also supports small-scale coding for generating detailed reports with visuals, tables, and charts, making it an ideal tool for research, analysis, or presentations.
One of Neon’s standout features is Tasks, which automatically organizes work by clustering similar content from multiple web pages into dedicated project spaces. This eliminates tab clutter and makes cross-source comparisons much easier. Another powerful function, Neon Do, can automate actions like opening or closing tabs, filling forms, or even completing transactions — all within a secure browser session to maintain privacy and control.
Cards are another core innovation. They are reusable command templates that users can create or download, such as weekly meal planning cards that automatically generate shopping lists or meeting summary cards that consolidate decisions and follow-ups. Multiple cards can be combined to handle complex workflows seamlessly.
Neon’s debut marks a major milestone in the escalating AI browser race, challenging the likes of Comet by Perplexity, Dia by The Browser Company, Copilot in Microsoft Edge, Gemini in Google Chrome, and the upcoming browser from OpenAI. Privacy is a central focus, with Neon running key operations on-device and including built-in VPN protection.
Currently, Neon is available in select regions as a subscription service priced at $19.90 per month . Interested users can join the waitlist at operaneon.com.
