League of Legends Dev Update: ARAM Mayhem, Anti-Smurf Crackdown, and Arcane Anniversary Content in Season 3 Act 2

Riot Games has dropped a major development update for League of Legends Season 3 Act 2, featuring a brand-new ARAM mode called Mayhem, tougher measures against smurfing and bot accounts, privacy tools for streamers, and a wave of new content celebrating the Arcane anniversary.

“Our goal for Act 2 is to make ARAM more fun, accessible, and dynamic with Mayhem and map upgrades, without losing its core identity,” the dev team explained. “At the same time, we remain committed to protecting competitive integrity, cracking down on bots and smurfs, and enhancing player and creator privacy.”

ARAM: Mayhem — A New Spin on the Classic 5v5
The highlight of this update is ARAM: Mayhem, a new standalone queue mode that brings Arena’s beloved Augments into the ARAM experience. Players can now choose between regular ARAM or the new Mayhem variant. Additionally, Butcher’s Bridge and Koeshin’s Crossing will become permanent ARAM maps, with ongoing visual and performance improvements planned.

Smurf and Bot Crackdown Intensifies
Riot is escalating its war against bots and smurfs, focusing on accurate detection while avoiding false bans. Since Patch 25.18:

  • 400,000 accounts purchased for ranked play have been banned.
  • 1.5 million botted accounts used for resale have been removed.
  • 2.5 million accounts awaiting sale are now flagged for deletion.

Starting with Patch 25.23, penalties will carry over across accounts if Riot is confident they belong to the same owner. Detection will use data from Vanguard, account details, and gameplay behavior.

Enhanced Privacy for Streamers
Streamer Mode is getting three new privacy options starting in Patch 25.20:

  • Hide Other Names: Hides the names of other players (current system).
  • Hide My Name: Hides your Riot ID and summoner name but shows progression details like champion mastery and ranked borders.
  • Hide My Everything: Fully hides all identifying information from lobby to end screen.

Arcane Anniversary Celebration

To mark one year since the Arcane finale, Patch 25.23 will bring back Arcane-themed skins from Season 1 and 2, along with bundles and a free mini reward track featuring new icons and emotes.

A highlight is the return of Arcane Fractured Jinx, complete with updated visuals, three new forms, reworked recalls, and Shimmer-themed animations. Players who already own the skin will receive all upgrades for free.

Gameplay and Store Improvements

  • Practice Tool (Patch 25.21): Solo players will now have access to all champions in the tool.
  • Blue Essence Emporium returns in Patch 25.23.
  • Your Shop reopens in Patch 25.24.

Esports and Future Roadmap
Worlds 2025 kicks off on October 14 in Beijing. The next Dev Update is scheduled for late November to early December, revealing what’s next in early 2026.

From the highly anticipated ARAM: Mayhem mode to one of the most aggressive anti-smurf measures yet, Riot is clearly focused on evolving League of Legends both on and off the Rift — blending fresh gameplay experiences with stronger community protections and exciting crossover celebrations.
