Samsung Files Patent for Galaxy Z Trifold—Next Step in Foldable Tech

Samsung Files Patent for Galaxy Z Trifold, Suggesting a Double-Fold Future

Samsung is pushing the envelope in foldable tech, having filed a patent for a Galaxy Z Trifold device—one that folds twice. The design suggests a shift toward multi-panel displays that offer both compactness and expansive screen space.

A trifold form means panels would fold in on two separate hinges, allowing for different modes: compact like a regular phone, half unfolded like a tablet, or fully opened for maximum screen real estate. This could give users flexibility for productivity, media consumption, or multitasking.

Challenges remain in areas like hinge durability, display crease minimization, flatness when unfolded, and ensuring battery life holds up across multiple folds. Additionally, manufacturing complexity and cost are expected to be higher compared to single-fold or dual-fold devices.

Although this patent doesn’t guarantee release, it adds momentum to Samsung’s R&D efforts, following a trend where flexible displays become central to the future of premium phones.

The highlight is the system of three batteries in each part of the device, which is a first in the Galaxy Z series. The central part combines the main screen and the cover uses a medium battery. Although the total capacity or charging speed has not been specified, it is expected to surpass the Fold 7 at 4,400mAh with 25W charging.

With the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, ultra-powerful processor, up to 16GB of RAM, 256GB-1TB of storage, 200MP ultrawide main camera, 12MP telephoto, 50MP optical zoom, 12MP front camera, Android 16 support on One UI 8 with 7 years of updates, focusing on multitasking like a PC in a pocket.

The monitor is expected to use Dynamic AMOLED 2X triple folding. The total diagonal is 10 inches when fully unfolded, the width ratio is higher than the current Fold. Create a full tablet experience for watching movies, working, or playing games while folding into an easy-to-carry smartphone. Ultra-slim body with titanium frame, challenging the limits of foldable devices.

Insider sources point out that Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Z TriFold at the end of October 2025 during the APEC Summit in South Korea. Following Unpacked’s July unveiling of the Fold 7 and Flip 7, initial sales are limited to China and South Korea, similar to the Fold SE, to test the market.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is not just an experimental gadget, but a step into the era of a seamless smartphone-tablet. Expected to start at $2,000, challenge the Huawei Mate XT and Honor Magic V3 with a slick One UI ecosystem.

A double fold might be just what innovation ordered Samsung’s Galaxy Z Trifold could be the tech twist we didn’t know we needed, and we’ll be watching when it bends into reality here at This Is Game SEA.
