Transform any webpage into an audio podcast instantly
Google has rolled out a new feature in Chrome for Android that turns written articles into short, AI-generated podcasts. Called Audio Overview, the tool builds on the existing Listen to this page function but adds a twist—rather than a flat text-to-speech reading, it presents the content as a natural conversation between two AI voices, summarizing the key points of the page. This makes consuming information faster and more engaging.
The feature is now available in the stable version of Chrome for Android (140.0.7339.124), following earlier testing in Chrome Canary. To use it, simply open an article in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, select Listen to this page, and then switch to the Audio Overview button in the playback controls. With this, a 10-minute read can be compressed into just a few minutes of listening.
Audio Overview is especially useful for multitaskers, users with visual impairments, or anyone who prefers listening over reading. Whether commuting, working out, or handling other tasks, users can now absorb content hands-free while still getting the main takeaways.
The technology behind this feature isn’t entirely new—it draws from Google’s NotebookLM and Gemini projects. However, integrating it directly into Chrome, one of Google’s core platforms, makes AI-powered article summaries accessible to a massive user base. Any webpage can now be transformed into a short, digestible podcast.
This move reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience through AI integration. Beyond saving time, Audio Overview adds new ways to consume information, making Chrome for Android an even more powerful tool.
Looking ahead, Google may expand this feature to other Chrome platforms or integrate it into additional Google products. As the demand for quick, convenient information grows, Audio Overview could soon become an essential part of everyday browsing.
