Final Fantasy VII Remake Stays True to Its Vision While Evolving with Fan Feedback

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Fans’ Voices Shape the Game But the Core Vision Stays Untouched
Square Enix is pushing forward with the highly anticipated third installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which will conclude the epic trilogy. As development continues, the team has opened up about how deeply they value fan feedback, while making it clear that the heart and creative vision of the game will remain unchanged regardless of popular demands.
Naoki Hamaguchi, co-director of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, shared in an interview with ntower that splitting the project into a trilogy has been a major advantage. It allows the team to gather feedback from each previous release and apply it directly to the next chapter. This approach, he says, is a rare “golden opportunity” that not every studio gets to experience.
However, Hamaguchi emphasized that while fan feedback is crucial, it will never alter the “core essence” of the game. Fundamental elements such as the main themes, narrative structure, and creative vision, shaped by key figures like Tetsuya Nomura, Motomu Toriyama, Yoshinori Kitase, and Hamaguchi himself, will remain firmly intact.
Where fan opinions do have a real impact is in the finer details of gameplay. Adjustments to mini-games, difficulty settings, and overall system balance are all areas where community feedback has significantly enhanced the player experience.
Hamaguchi likened the trilogy’s development model to a “live service” approach, even though the games are sold as standalone titles. By listening closely to players between releases, the development team can evolve each entry to align more closely with what fans want, without compromising the franchise’s core identity.
This balance, respecting the original vision while responding to modern expectations, is what makes Final Fantasy VII Remake a standout in modern game development. It reflects Square Enix’s commitment to delivering the best possible experience while preserving the soul of the beloved classic.
While the third and final chapter still has no confirmed release date, Square Enix is expanding the universe of Final Fantasy VII to new platforms, with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launching on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026.
