Fans discover hidden “NEWDawn” URL in Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem mystery: Hidden URL on BSAA computer leads to Valve fan site
The Resident Evil community is famous for its detective work. Consequently, fans have spent years dissecting every pixel for hidden lore. In the recently released Resident Evil Requiem, players have discovered everything from the ring on Leon S. Kennedy’s finger to the real-life Hamilton watches worn by the protagonists. However, the latest discovery is perhaps the strangest one yet. A hidden URL found on a BSAA computer terminal doesn’t lead to a Capcom teaser, but rather to a website dedicated to Valve.
Zooming into the BSAA Terminal
The discovery was made during a late-game sequence where Leon uses a BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) computer to log mission progress. Sharp-eyed players used the gameโs photo mode to zoom into the lines of code scrolling across the screen. Hidden among the technical jargon, they spotted a specific web domain: โNEWDawn-capcom.comโ.
In the gaming industry, hidden URLs are often “Easter Eggs” that lead to promotional websites or ARG (Alternate Reality Game) content. Naturally, fans rushed to their browsers to see what Capcom was teasing.
From Resident Evil to Gabe Newell
To the community’s surprise, the domain NEWDawn-capcom.com is not owned by Capcom. Instead, it currently redirects to a site hosted by โGabe Follower,โ a well-known personality in the Valve community. The site serves as a hub for information regarding Gabe Newell, the co-founder of Valve, and various Valve-related projects.

It appears that while the URL was written into the gameโs texture files, the actual domain was either never registered by Capcom or was snatched up by a fan before the game launched. This leads to a hilarious situation where a secret found in a Resident Evil game takes players straight into the world of Half-Life and Counter-Strike news.
The “New Dawn” Conspiracy
Despite the website mix-up, the term “New Dawn” has sparked a massive wave of fan theories. Many believe it was the original working title for Resident Evil Requiem before the final name was chosen. Others have pointed out connections to existing lore:

- Albert Weskerโs Vision: Fans have noted that the phrase “New Dawn” aligns with Weskerโs frequent speeches about a new world order in Resident Evil 5 and the RE4 Remake.
- Leonโs License Plate: In the game, Leon drives a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT with the license plate โND-9642.โ * The Code Theory: Some players suggest that ND stands for New Dawn, while the numbers 9, 6, 4, and 2 refer to the mainline games where Leon was the protagonist.

A Detective’s Charm
Whether the URL was a mistake or a discarded piece of development history, it highlights the incredible level of detail Capcom puts into its environments. These small touches keep the community engaged long after the credits roll. At the very least, fans are relieved that the mystery domain leads to a harmless fan site rather than something malicious.

As players continue to scour the ruins of Pywel in Crimson Desert and the streets of Raccoon City in RE Requiem, we can expect many more “digital breadcrumbs” to surface.
