Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PS5 Lighting Update Confirmed Ahead of Switch 2 and Xbox Release

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Will Receive a Lighting Upgrade on PS5

When Final Fantasy VII Rebirth first launched on PlayStation 5, many players praised its scale and ambition but expressed mixed feelings about its visual performance. In Performance Mode, image quality appeared softer than expected, while Graphics Mode struggled to maintain consistent frame rates.

As a result, comparisons with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade left some fans disappointed, especially given Rebirth’s status as a true next generation title.

Other Console Versions Looked Better at First Glance

With Rebirth confirmed to expand beyond exclusivity and launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S later this year, early footage raised new concerns. The Switch 2 and Xbox versions appeared to feature noticeably improved lighting and visual effects.

Many observers pointed out that these versions seemed closer to the enhanced PC build, sparking fears that the PS5 release would be left behind.

Producer Confirms Free PS5 Visual Update

Those concerns have now been put to rest. Naoki Hamaguchi, producer of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, has officially confirmed that the PS5 version will receive a free graphics update on the same day the Switch 2 and Xbox versions launch.

This update will specifically improve lighting effects, ensuring visual parity across all platforms. Players on PS5 will not need to repurchase or upgrade the game to benefit from these enhancements.

In addition, the update will include streamlined progression features previously introduced in Remake Intergrade, further refining the overall experience.

A Unified Vision Across All Platforms

Hamaguchi explained that the goal is to deliver a consistent experience across every platform. While Remake Intergrade required compromises to maintain parity on weaker hardware, Rebirth is designed for modern systems, making visual alignment far more achievable.

With lighting improvements applied universally, Square Enix aims to preserve the intended atmosphere, tone, and immersion regardless of where players choose to play.

Release Timing and Pricing Updates

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on June 3, 2026. Alongside this expansion, Square Enix has also announced permanent price reductions for the PS5 and PC versions.

For fans who held off due to technical concerns, this update represents the most polished version of Rebirth yet and a strong reason to revisit or jump into Cloud’s journey once again.
