Xbox Players Complain Red Dead Redemption Upgrade Delay, Rockstar Responds

Xbox Players Complain Red Dead Redemption Next-Gen Upgrade Not Delivered, Rockstar Games Acknowledges Issue
Red Dead Redemption Xbox Upgrade Issue
Xbox players have voiced frustration over the promised next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption, even as the version for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 has received praise. The PS5 and Switch 2 editions enhanced the original game with improved draw distance, higher resolution, and smooth frame rates. However, Xbox Series X|S players have reported limited access to the free upgrade, sparking a minor controversy.
Upgrade Availability Problem
Rockstar Games had confirmed that players who purchased the game on PS4, Switch, or Xbox 360 (playing through Xbox One) would receive the next-gen upgrade at no extra cost. Despite this, only a small group of Xbox players—mainly those who bought bundled editions including Red Dead Redemption 2—have received the upgrade so far.
Rockstar has acknowledged the issue and reassured players that all eligible Xbox 360 digital editions and Xbox One purchases will receive the upgrade. The rollout will be gradual. While Rockstar has not provided detailed reasons for the delay, some suspect miscommunication with the Microsoft Store may have contributed. Players are encouraged to share their experiences regarding the upgrade status.
About Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption is an open-world action-adventure set in 1911, immersing players in the desert landscapes of the Wild West. Players control John Marston, completing missions to secure his family’s safety while navigating themes of betrayal, drama, and humor. Unlike modern urban titles, the game emphasizes horseback riding and period-accurate skills such as slow-motion shooting and lasso use.
The game also includes the Undead Nightmare content—a standalone story featuring a zombie outbreak. John must find a cure to save townspeople, his wife, and child, unlocking zombie-themed outfits along the way. Note that Undead Nightmare remains single-player only.
Red Dead Redemption is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, as well as previous-generation platforms (PS4, Xbox One, Switch 1) and mobile devices (iOS and Android). It is available both as a standalone purchase and via Netflix Games.
