Sony may scale back PC strategy and keep major PlayStation titles exclusive

A new industry report suggests that Sony Interactive Entertainment may be reconsidering its approach to releasing major PlayStation titles on PC.
According to information shared by Bloomberg, sources familiar with internal discussions claim Sony could stop bringing large scale single player PlayStation games to the PC platform in the future.
If the report proves accurate, the shift will mark a significant change from the company’s strategy over the past several years.
Sony’s PC push began in 2019
Since around 2019, Sony has gradually expanded its presence in the PC gaming market. Several major PlayStation titles have been ported to PC, allowing players outside the console ecosystem to experience first party games.
The company also acquired Nixxes Software, a development studio well known for its expertise in adapting console games for PC hardware. The move signaled Sony’s growing commitment to bringing its games to a broader audience.
Over time, the strategy even introduced features such as cross platform trophy support between PlayStation and PC players.
However, the approach has also sparked debate among console loyalists who believe first party games should remain exclusive to the PlayStation ecosystem.
Future PC releases may focus on online games
The report suggests Sony may step back from releasing large scale single player blockbusters on PC.
Instead, the company may continue releasing certain online focused or smaller scale titles on the platform. Examples mentioned include games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls.
Meanwhile, flagship single player franchises such as God of War may remain primarily within the PlayStation ecosystem moving forward.
Strategy tied to PlayStation hardware sales
According to the report, Sony may believe that releasing major single player titles on PC could impact the incentive for players to purchase PlayStation consoles.
By focusing those titles exclusively on PlayStation platforms, the company may aim to strengthen the brand identity of the console and reinforce hardware sales.
However, Sony representatives have declined to comment on the report.

For now, the information remains unconfirmed, and it will take official announcements from Sony to determine whether the company will truly shift its PC strategy in the coming years.
