Street Fighter 6 Director Apologizes for Alex Ending

Street Fighter 6 Director Apologizes for Controversial Alex Ending, Promises Immediate Story Changes

A major controversy has erupted surrounding the storyline of Alex, the latest character to join the Street Fighter 6 roster. The returning protagonist from the third generation of the franchise became the center of a massive debate when his Arcade Mode ending revealed a romantic relationship and marriage with his second cousin. While legally permissible in certain parts of the United States, the anthropological and cultural sensitivity of this relationship triggered a massive wave of backlash against the game’s director.

Following the heavy criticism from the community, CAPCOM has officially made a move to address the situation.

The Apology and Upcoming Content Adjustments

Director Takayuki Nakayama has publicly apologized for the incident. He confirmed that after internal discussions within the development team, they have decided to modify specific in-game content to correct the narrative and align everyone’s understanding moving forward.

Additionally, the team has released a new blog post detailing Alex’s background story to better fit the upcoming narrative adjustments that will be patched into the game. Fans will have to wait and see exactly what direction this revised storyline takes.

The Root of the Controversy

The core of the issue stems from the still-image cutscenes presented at the end of Alex’s Arcade run in Street Fighter 6. The artwork displayed Alex intimately close to Patricia, a young woman established as his cousin. The images further depicted her wearing a wedding dress and showing clear signs of pregnancy.

It is highly speculated that the upcoming patch will alter the accompanying text or cutscenes to clearly redefine the nature of their relationship, steering away from the romantic implications that caused the uproar.
