Why Where Winds Meet Mobile Starts With Only 2 Difficulty Modes

A deliberate choice driven by player-first design
The developers of Where Winds Meet have clarified why the mobile version begins with only two difficulty levels—Story and Recommended—a decision they describe as an act of genuine care for players. The goal is to ensure a smoother transition into the sprawling wuxia world, especially on touch-based devices.
A Tailored Experience for Mobile

In a Q&A focused on the mobile version, the team explained that their mission is to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience across all platforms. The essence of wuxia exploration and combat remains intact, but certain adjustments were necessary to suit mobile ergonomics, control styles, and on-the-go play patterns.
One major change is the initial difficulty limitation. When creating a new character on mobile, players can choose only Story or Recommended. According to the team, this is because mobile controls naturally differ from keyboard and mouse, meaning the skill ceiling and learning curve also shift. Allowing players to begin with more forgiving settings helps them comfortably grasp the combat system.
Expert Mode Unlocks Later
Once players master the basics and their character reaches Level 30, the Expert difficulty mode unlocks as normal—ensuring the challenge remains available without overwhelming new mobile players from the start.
Assist Features Enabled by Default
To further ease onboarding, the Assist Deflection feature—an automated aid that helps with timing defensive actions—is turned on by default for newly created mobile characters. It can be switched off anytime in the settings for players who prefer full manual control.
A Journey Through a Turbulent Era
Where Winds Meet continues to immerse players in a dramatic era of political upheaval during the late stages of an ancient dynasty. Players step into the role of a wandering martial artist born into chaos, battling through conflicts and decisions that can shape the fate of an empire.
