Interview: VALORANT Designer Kevin Meier on the New Agent Miks

[Interview] VALORANT Game Designer Kevin Meier Welcomes Miks to Season 2026 Act 2

The wait is over! VALORANT has officially rolled out its latest update, kicking off Season 2026 Act 2. This new act introduces Miks, the newest Controller agent hailing from Croatia. Miks is ready to blast onto the scene, utilizing the power of music and heavy bass to surprise opponents with entirely unique strategies.

To celebrate the launch, ThisIsGame Thailand and other Thai media outlets had the exclusive opportunity to sit down and speak with Kevin Meier, Game Designer at VALORANT, to dive deep into the creation of this musical new Agent.

Developer Q&A: Designing the Musical Controller

Q1: First of all, what was the biggest challenge in developing Miks?

Kevin Meier: The keyword “sound” was incredibly challenging because it is already such a crucial gameplay element in VALORANT. We wanted his abilities to reflect heavy bass and music so players could really hear and feel it, but at the same time, it couldn’t be too distracting. The difficulty lay in designing these skills for gameplay immersion without letting them overshadow the technical audio cues players rely on. We had to work very closely with the sound design team to ensure the experience came out as smooth as possible.

Q2: What kind of playstyle will benefit the most from using Miks?

Kevin Meier: I think a team with a highly supportive game plan that relies heavily on communication will utilize Miks to his full potential. When a team coordinates to push a site, change the tempo, or trade kills, his Combat Stim accelerates momentum at crucial moments. Meanwhile, his healing and smoke abilities help the team stabilize during heavy engagements. If the whole team cooperates well, Miks can make a massive impact on the match.

Q3: What will surprise players the most about Miks?

Kevin Meier: The personal, hands-on feeling conveyed through his ability usage will probably be the biggest surprise. Usually, support characters in VALORANT place down specific objects, but with Miks, you will see his special skills drawn directly onto the battlefield by his own hands. For example, his Harmonize ability refreshes after securing a kill, and the tempo of the music actually speeds up. Everything has layers that constantly sync up with the gameplay.

Q4: What kind of mechanics does the team want to explore in the future?

Kevin Meier: We are always trying to create new things while keeping the game easy to understand. Personally, I am excited about mechanics that add new dimensions to decision-making and offer fresh strategic choicesโ€”or skills that heavily reward careful consideration of timing and planning. These are the elements that help abilities survive in the meta long-term. Please take good care of Miks!

Q5: Any final words for the Thai player community?

Kevin Meier: The player community in Thailand always shows consistent passion and energy. We receive fantastic feedback from fans in this region, so we are incredibly excited to see how Thai players will adapt Miks to different situations. This Agent is designed around coordinated skills and balanced team positioning, meaning good teamwork will unlock his highest potential. We are really looking forward to seeing the unique playstyles Thai players and creators come up with.
