Still Waiting! Genshin Impact Switch Version Ranks Among Most Anticipated Games in Japan

Genshin Impact fans may remember that HoYoverse announced a Nintendo Switch version of the popular free-to-play action-adventure RPG back in early 2020. However, after more than five years, the game has yet to make its debut on the platform. Aside from occasional updates from the developers, the project has remained in development limbo, now approaching the era of the Nintendo Switch 2.

According to a recent report from Nintendo Everything, despite the ongoing wait, the latest issue of Japan’s Famitsu magazine ranked Genshin Impact for Switch as the 29th most anticipated game among Japanese players, earning a score of 40 points out of a maximum of 400. This demonstrates a significant level of interest, keeping the title relevant in the gaming community even without concrete updates.

The reasons behind the long delay remain speculative. Early concerns included art style and audio, which some observers noted resembled elements from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Currently, performance limitations of the original Switch hardware seem to be a major factor. Even PlayStation 4 has reportedly reached its limits for handling new content beyond mid-2026, highlighting the technical challenges of porting such a massive open-world game.

Genshin Impact remains a globally popular action RPG set in the fantastical world of Teyvat, offering free exploration, multiple playable characters, an interactive elemental combat system, and an engaging storyline. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, Android, and Xbox Series X|S, keeping fans eager for a full Switch release.
