Pokémon Legends Z-A Eases Mega Stone Ranked Requirements

Pokémon Legends Z-A Eases Mega Stone Requirements for Ranked Battles

The Pokémon Company has announced upcoming balance adjustments and reward changes for the Z-A Battle Club Ranked Battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Starting with the launch of Season 2 in November 2025, the requirements for obtaining the powerful and exclusive Mega Stones will be significantly lowered, making them easier to acquire for trainers across the world.
This update directly addresses community feedback regarding the difficulty of obtaining certain Mega Stones, specifically those for the new Kalos starter Mega Evolutions.
Mega Stone Rewards Are Now Easier to Get
The core change is the reduction of the required rank to receive the Mega Stone promotion rewards for the Kalos starters—Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught.
| Mega Stone | Previous Season 1 Requirement | New Season 2 Requirement |
| Greninjite | Rank K (Required for promotion) | Rank Y (Redistributed Reward) |
| Delphoxite | Unavailable (Season 1 Reward) | Rank S (New Season Reward) |
- Significant Reduction: In Season 1, players had to reach Rank K to earn Greninjite. In Season 2, the new Mega Stone, Delphoxite, will be available at Rank S, and Greninjite will be available at Rank Y. This represents a reduction of eight ranks for the new Seasonal Mega Stone, dramatically reducing the competitive hurdle for players.
- Recurrence Confirmed: The Pokémon Company has also confirmed that Mega Stones will return more frequently in future seasons. This ensures that players who miss a stone in its debut season (like Greninjite in Season 1) will have easier opportunities to collect it in subsequent seasons, like the upcoming Season 2. Chesnaughtite is anticipated to be the exclusive reward for Season 3.
Additional Ranked Battle System Improvements
Beyond the Mega Stones, The Pokémon Company is implementing broader quality-of-life changes to the competitive online mode.
- Point System Adjustment: Future updates will adjust the points awarded after Ranked Battles. This change aims to prevent significant point losses based on match outcomes, reducing the frustration of losing substantial progress after a defeat.
- Increased Battle Rewards: The overall rewards received after each battle will be increased, with more useful items added to the post-battle rewards pool. This makes simple participation in the Z-A Battle Club more rewarding, encouraging more players to try the online format.
- Bug Fixes: A patch arriving in November will also address several minor bugs, including a Full Box Catch Glitch that caused Pokémon catch attempts to fail if the storage boxes were completely full.
These adjustments are intended to create a more welcoming and balanced competitive environment for all trainers, making the core fun of using powerful Mega Evolutions more accessible.
Our Take: A Mega Win for the Community
The decision to lower the rank requirements for Mega Stones is a smart, player-friendly move by The Pokémon Company. Locking such integral and exciting features as Mega Evolution behind a high-level competitive wall alienated many players who simply want to enjoy the content without the pressure of a hard grind. By moving the rewards to lower ranks and confirming that stones will recur more frequently, they have struck an excellent balance: they still encourage participation in the Z-A Battle Club while removing the punishing barrier to entry. This change ensures that the power and fun of Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox will now be available to a much wider audience across the globe.
