Revisiting the original Resident Evil 2 isn’t just a trip down memory lane—it’s a chance to appreciate how far survival horror has come, while still embracing the tense, methodical pacing of classic gameplay.

A nostalgic return as the classic survival horror hits PS4 and PS5

August 20, 2025 – To celebrate the re-release of the classic Resident Evil 2 (DualShock Version) on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 — also available via the PS Plus Deluxe classic games library — fans of survival horror now have a chance to revisit the game that helped define the genre. Whether you’re new to tank controls or a veteran of 90s nightmares, this is the perfect excuse to dive back into Raccoon City. And of course, we’ve got you covered with essential cheats and unlocks to enhance your experience.

About the DUALSHOCK Version

This version is the definitive edition of Resident Evil 2 from the original PlayStation era, featuring DualShock controller support, including vibration feedback. It also includes some content and balance tweaks not present in earlier releases. However, this version does not include the gallery from Dreamcast or GameCube versions, and there is no invincibility cheat. The only major cheat available is infinite ammo, and here’s how to activate it:

🧨 Infinite Ammo Cheat

  1. After launching the game, press the Touchpad (SELECT) on your DualShock 4 or DualSense to open the Options menu.
  2. Navigate to Key Config.
  3. Once on the button layout screen, hold down R1 and press the Square button 10 times.
  4. If done correctly, you’ll hear a jingle, and the words “Manual – Auto” will turn red (from their default white).

That’s it — unlimited bullets for your weapons!

🧩 Unlockable Special Modes

4th Survivor Mode

Play as HUNK, the Umbrella operative, in a short survival challenge.

  • How to unlock: Finish both A and B scenarios with any character on Normal difficulty or higher.

Tofu Survivor

The same scenario as HUNK, but with a twist — you play as a giant block of tofu armed only with a knife.

  • How to unlock: Clear the game in Original mode in this order: Claire A and Leon B, repeated three times (six total playthroughs).

Extreme Battle Mode

A fast-paced mini-game where you collect bombs while battling enemies in reverse order of the original game flow.

  • How to unlock: Complete both Claire and Leon’s full storylines on Normal difficulty.
  • Unlockable characters: Start with Leon and Claire. Unlock Ada and Chris by clearing Extreme Battle Level 1 and 2 respectively.

🎯 Special Items and Costumes

Alternate Costumes for Leon and Claire

  • Begin a new game on Normal or Hard.
  • Do not pick up any items until reaching the police station.
  • You’ll encounter zombie Brad near the front gate — defeat him to get a special key.
  • Use this key in the safe room under the stairs to unlock costumes:
    • Leon: Two outfits
    • Claire: One outfit and a special Colt S.A.A. pistol

Once unlocked in Scenario A, Brad will appear automatically in Scenario B.

🔫 Unlockable Weapons

  • Gatling Gun: Finish any B-side scenario in under 2.5 hours, without saving, and get a rank of B or higher.
  • SMG: Finish the B-side in under 3 hours with a rank of B or higher.
  • Rocket Launcher: Again, complete a B-side in under 2.5 hours, no saves, rank B or higher.

About Resident Evil 2 (Original Version)

Originally released on the PlayStation 1, Resident Evil 2 follows two new characters: Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie cop reporting for his first day in Raccoon City, and Claire Redfield, a college student searching for her missing brother, Chris. What they find instead is a city overwhelmed by the undead.

The game features a Zapping System — decisions made in one character’s scenario (A) affect the events in the other’s (B), offering a dynamic and intertwined narrative experience.

Revisiting the original Resident Evil 2 isn’t just a trip down memory lane—it’s a chance to appreciate how far survival horror has come, while still embracing the tense, methodical pacing of classic gameplay. The DUALSHOCK version, with its added features and nostalgic charm, delivers a solid blend of old-school challenge and modern accessibility.
