Square Enix Bans Streaming of Dragon Quest I & II Endings

Square Enix Orders One-Month Ban on Streaming Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Ending
Square Enix has introduced strict content guidelines for streamers and content creators planning to cover the highly anticipated Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. These rules impose a temporary ban on uploading or streaming footage of the game’s most critical story moments for a full month following the title’s global release on October 30, 2025. This measure is designed to preserve the element of surprise for the massive worldwide player base.
The Strict Content Restriction
The core of the new guidelines targets the narrative conclusion of the two classic JRPGs, which have been significantly enhanced with new content and story segments in the HD-2D format.
- Ending and Post-Ending Ban: Streamers and content creators are prohibited from sharing or live streaming the ending and post-ending gameplay following the final battle of both Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II until December 13, 2025. This date falls roughly one month after the official launch.
- Spoiler Warnings Required: For all other scenes that are closely related to the main scenario, the company explicitly asks creators to voluntarily label them as “contains spoilers.” This prevents accidental plot reveals for those who have not yet reached those points.
- Non-Commercial Use: Square Enix allows the uploading of images and video footage to social media and streaming platforms for “non-commercial” purposes.
- No Cutscene Compilations: Players are also prohibited from posting videos or creating playlists that are specifically made or edited with the sole purpose of featuring only the game’s cutscenes or music, without showing the “normal gameplay” in between.
The Rationale Behind the Ban
While the original games are decades old, the HD-2D Remake contains substantial new content and story segments. The developers specifically mentioned that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake includes rewritten stories, new boss battles, and the introduction of a new, fourth-party member in Dragon Quest II named Matilda, the Princess of Cannock.
- Preserving New Content: The one-month restriction aims to protect players from spoilers regarding these new twists and story additions, ensuring the experience is fresh even for long-time fans of the series.
- Following a Precedent: This type of content restriction is not entirely new for Japanese publishers, as companies like Atlus and Koei Tecmo have also enforced similar rulesets for major game releases to safeguard the story experience.
The game launches on October 30, 2025, for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5, allowing players to jump into the reimagined adventure of the Erdrick Trilogy.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be released on October 30th. On PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, and PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store), this remake not only offers a deeper gameplay experience. It is also a celebration of the legend of the brave who has dominated the hearts of gaming fans around the world for more than 35 years.
Square Enix confirms that while the game retains its original classic style, every element of the game, including the story, visuals, music, and world design, has been redeveloped to allow young and old fans to experience the charm of Dragon Quest in a way that is both fresh and valuable at the same time.
