Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Might Make Screen Protectors Obsolete with Gorilla Glass Armor+

The accessory industry may face major changes as rumors swirl around the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, set to launch in 2026. Leaks from notable source Ice Universe suggest that Samsung and Corning have co-developed a new screen glass called Gorilla Glass Armor+ (also known as Gorilla Armor 3), designed to solve durability and scratch problems at the structural level. This could allow users to enjoy a smooth touchscreen experience without the need for traditional screen protectors.

Next-Level Durability

The new glass reportedly elevates scratch resistance to the next level. Previous models like the Galaxy S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra set new benchmarks with a Mohs hardness of 8, surpassing most standard glass in the market. For the S26 Ultra, Glass Ceramic material is expected to be denser and more resilient, capable of withstanding drops onto concrete more effectively. This has led to claims that the era of conventional screen protectors could be coming to an end.

Privacy Display Integration

Samsung also plans to integrate Privacy Display (Flex Magic Pixel) technology, designed to replace the need for anti-peep films. This tech automatically adjusts viewing angles, dimming the screen when seen from the side to protect sensitive information in public without compromising brightness or color accuracy.

Market Considerations

Although the screen technology is highly advanced, Samsung will continue selling official screen protectors for older models. Therefore, the claim that S26 Ultra will permanently eliminate the need for protectors might be slightly exaggerated. Still, for users frustrated with scratched films or fingerprint scanning issues caused by screen protectors, the S26 Ultra could be the solution they’ve been waiting for.

Release and Pricing

The Galaxy Unpacked event is expected in late February 2026, with a premium price likely similar to previous models, starting around $1,299 USD (~45,000 THB). Avoiding extra costs on screen protectors could save users some money, making the investment even more attractive.

Looking Ahead

Once the device is officially released, it will be interesting to see how Gorilla Glass Armor+ performs under daily use. Meanwhile, competitors like Apple may have to step up significantly to match Samsung’s cutting-edge screen technology, which leads in both durability and anti-reflection performance.
