Revealed by Thomas Lawhead, senior executive for strategy and integration, at the APEX Defense Conference on January 28, 2026, WarMatrix is a cloud-based AI platform designed to streamline war gaming and identify the capabilities truly required for battlefield success.

Modernizing War Gaming

Traditionally, preparing a single war game scenario could take 6 months to a year, with human teams debating outcomes and determining casualties turn by turn. While effective, this approach is too slow for today’s fast-paced defense needs.

WarMatrix changes the paradigm by digitally simulating multiple combat scenarios simultaneously. AI acts as the arbiter of battle outcomes, enabling planners to instantly adjust variables and determine which capabilities are critical for victory.
