Nintendo Reveals First Images from The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie

Nintendo has officially released the first set of images from its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, confirming that filming is now underway. The project, initially teased with a logo and cast announcements, is scheduled for release no earlier than 2027. Fans can now get the first look at how the iconic characters Link and Zelda will appear on screen.
First Official Images Reveal Classic and Breath of the Wild Elements
Nintendo shared three images through its Nintendo Today channel. The first features Link and Zelda sitting together on a grassy hill. Link’s outfit blends elements from Breath of the Wild with a green tunic reminiscent of Twilight Princess, while Zelda wears a costume inspired by the new game universe. The remaining two images showcase the characters individually, emphasizing details that hint at a story influenced by Breath of the Wild, including a Link without his signature hat.

While Nintendo has not revealed plot specifics, speculation surrounds whether the timeline will depict events 100 years before Breath of the Wild or occur during the main events of the game. Fans have already noticed parallels between these promotional images and artwork from Breath of the Wild’s one-year anniversary, suggesting a deliberate visual homage.
Movie Collaboration and Cast

The live-action adaptation is produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures, with Wes Ball, known for Maze Runner and the reboot of Planet of the Apes, directing. Early teasers use logos and typography referencing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, reinforcing expectations that the story will draw heavily from these entries. The cast includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragson as Zelda.
About The Legend of Zelda Franchise
The Legend of Zelda is a long-running Nintendo franchise following Link on his adventures across the kingdom of Hyrule, a land inhabited by humans, fantasy creatures, and villains. While each game presents a different story along the series’ timeline, central characters like Link, Princess Zelda, and Ganondorf remain constants, tying the games together through recurring themes and lore.
With filming progressing smoothly, fans can look forward to a live-action adaptation that honors the series’ legacy while integrating fresh elements from its most recent games.
