When talking about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, most players immediately think of its deep single-player storytelling and immersive world, designed to be experienced without social distractions. However, many have wondered what the game might feel like if it were turned into an online experience. A new mod may finally offer an answer.
A mod creator known as rejuvenate7 has released a new project called Witcher Online, introducing MMO-inspired online functionality into The Witcher 3.
MMO-style features brought into the world of The Witcher
The Witcher Online allows players to connect to dedicated servers created specifically for the mod. Once connected, players can see other characters inhabiting the same world and take part in shared activities such as traveling together or progressing through the campaign side by side.
The mod also supports Custom Player Characters, enabling players to create entirely new characters instead of playing only as Geralt. In addition, the Chill Out feature provides a shared social space where players can gather, interact, and socialize, giving the overall experience the feel of a large-scale online RPG. For convenience, an Easy Setup package is also available, bundling multiple required components into a single installation.
Current limitations of the mod
While the mod allows multiple players to appear in the same game world, it does not yet support cooperative combat. Players cannot fight enemies together and can only coexist visually in the same areas.
When playing story quests together, smooth synchronization requires party members to select dialogue options at the same time, following the decisions made by the party leader. This ensures consistent progression and avoids desynchronization issues during quest sequences.
