Saints Row Franchise Dead: A Retrospective on the Rise and Fall of the Saints

Saints Row franchise May Be Finished, According to the Developer

One of the developers behind Saints Row has admitted that the franchise may already be dead. The comment has disappointed long-time fans who still hoped for a proper comeback to the over-the-top open-world series often compared to Grand Theft Auto.

Chris Stockman, a design director who frequently interacted with the community, shared the update through Discord. According to reports circulated by fans, he said he now believes Saints Row will not move forward. He explained that after submitting ideas, he never received any response from the current rights holder.

No Response After Pitching New Ideas for Saints Row franchise

Stockman previously gave fans hope in October when he said he had been asked to draft a concept for a Saints Row origin project. That statement sparked optimism that the series could return in a fresh but respectful way. However, months passed with no follow-up.

Recently, Stockman clarified the situation. He said that after October, it became clear that Embracer Group showed no interest in continuing the franchise. He added that no one replied to his proposals, despite his efforts. While he wanted fans to get the comeback they hoped for, he admitted that the project appears to be over.

Saints Row franchise That Lost Momentum

Saints Row built its identity as a chaotic, comedic take on the open-world crime genre. Earlier entries, especially Saints Row IV and its spin-offs, achieved strong popularity by embracing absurd humor and exaggerated gameplay. However, the 2022 reboot failed to meet expectations. Many players criticized its tone, writing, and overall direction.

Since then, the franchise has remained silent. With Volition shut down and no visible plans from Embracer, the chances of a revival now seem extremely slim.

What This Means for Fans

For fans across SEA and beyond, this news likely marks the end of a once-beloved series. Saints Row had a unique place in gaming, offering wild freedom and satire that few franchises matched. Unless Embracer changes course or sells the IP, Saints Row will likely remain dormant.

At this point, hope rests on an unlikely reversal. Until then, Saints Row appears to have reached its final chapter.
