Final Fantasy Brave Exvius to Shut Down Permanently on October 31

After nearly a decade of service, the final Japanese server will go dark this fall.

In a move that marks the end of an era, Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE) will permanently shut down its last remaining server in Japan on October 31, 2025. This announcement follows the game’s earlier global shutdown in October 2024, which had already left many fans stunned—especially considering how consistently the game had been receiving new content even near the end.

Now, the “real farewell” is finally happening in Japan, the region where FFBE first launched back in 2015.

What’s Happening?

According to the official social media channels, Square Enix has begun the final phase of service termination. Microtransactions have already been disabled, and any remaining premium currency can still be used until the shutdown date. The company also expressed gratitude to fans for their continuous support throughout the game’s life.

It’s a bittersweet moment, as FFBE was more than just another mobile RPG. With deep lore, an engaging combat system, and collaborations with beloved Final Fantasy characters, it became a staple title for fans of the franchise—often praised for storytelling that rivaled even mainline console entries.

A New Memorial App is Coming

While the game itself will no longer be playable, Square Enix isn’t letting it vanish completely. They’ve announced a companion app titled Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius – Memorial Version, which will act as a visual gallery rather than a game. The app will allow players to browse character illustrations, unit cards, and explore parts of the game’s world and lore one last time.

Players still enjoying the Japanese version will have until October 31 to participate in farewell campaigns and soak in their final moments with the game.

What Was Final Fantasy Brave Exvius?

Released in collaboration with Alim, the studio behind Brave Frontier, FFBE was a turn-based RPG that blended traditional Final Fantasy elements with gacha-style hero collection. Players could fight enemies and bosses in dungeons, gather crafting materials, explore towns, take on side quests, and engage in PvP.

With over 40 million downloads worldwide, FFBE stood as a major mobile entry for the franchise, and one of the longest-running and most content-rich mobile RPGs in Square Enix’s portfolio.

Final Thought

The closing of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is more than just the end of a mobile game—it’s the end of a community that has lasted a decade, inspired countless fan creations, and kept the spirit of classic Final Fantasy storytelling alive on mobile. While its shutdown may bring sadness, it also marks a rare example of a mobile game that truly resonated with players for years. Hopefully, the upcoming Memorial Version can serve as a digital museum for fans to look back on fondly—and maybe, just maybe, inspire something new in the future.
