Nintendo Confirms Switch Global Price Hike for All Models

Nintendo Officially Confirms Global Price Hike for All Switch Models

Following recent reports from Bloomberg, Nintendo has officially confirmed in its latest financial statement that prices for the entire Nintendo Switch family will be adjusted upward. This price hike affects every model in the current lineup including the original Switch, Switch 2, OLED Model, and the Switch Lite. The company stated that these changes are necessary due to ongoing global economic shifts and rising costs. This marks a significant move for the company as it looks to maintain its margins across both Japanese and Western markets.

Japan to See Immediate Increases Followed by Global Rollout

The price adjustment will begin in Japan first, specifically targeting the regional models. Starting May 25, the price of these units will increase from 49,980 yen to 59,980 yen, which is roughly $380 when converted. However, international models sold within Japan will remain at their current price for now. For the rest of the world, the impact will be felt later this year. In Western markets, the price is set to climb from $449.99 to $499.99 starting in September. This represents a jump of nearly $50 for consumers looking to pick up a new console later this year.

Nintendo Switch Online Fees Also Facing Adjustments

In addition to hardware, Nintendo is also adjusting the cost of its digital services. In Japan, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription fee will see a slight increase starting July 1. While the change is relatively small, it signals a broader effort by Nintendo to align its revenue streams with the current economic climate. So far, there has been no official movement regarding price changes specifically for Southeast Asia or the local market, but industry experts suggest that a regional adjustment may follow shortly after the global rollout begins.

Future Outlook for Switch 2 Owners

The Nintendo Switch 2 remains the flagship experience for the brand, offering 1080P handheld resolution, 4K television output, and a smooth 120FPS framerate. With a 7.9-inch HDR screen and 256GB of internal storage, it continues to be a high-demand item despite the looming price increase. For gamers who have been on the fence about upgrading, the window to purchase at current prices is closing fast. As the hardware becomes more expensive to produce and distribute, these price adjustments reflect the reality of the next-gen gaming landscape in 2026.

THIS IS our take

Inflation finally caught up to the Mushroom Kingdom, and it is hitting our wallets right where it hurts! While we are not thrilled about the extra $50 price tag on the Switch 2, it is hard to stay mad when you consider the tech packed into that 120FPS beast. If you have been waiting for a sale, this news is basically a sign that “now” is the cheapest the console will ever be again. It is a tough pill to swallow for those of us in Southeast Asia, but hopefully, local retailers will hold out on the price jump for a few more weeks so we can grab those last-minute deals!
