Dune Awakening Console Launch Gets Huge Upgrade

Dune: Awakening Comes To Consoles This September
Funcom has announced that Dune: Awakening will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22.
The game is an Open World Survival experience inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune, as well as the blockbuster film franchise from Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment.
Pre-orders are now open on PlayStation and Xbox.
Players who pre-order can receive special rewards. Those who purchase the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition will also receive early access.
The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99.
The Deluxe Edition is priced at $69.99.
The Ultimate Edition is priced at $89.99.
The Best Version Of Dune: Awakening So Far
Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom, said this launch is more than simply bringing the game to consoles.
For the studio, it marks another major step after more than a year of development work.
He described this version as the best version of Dune: Awakening so far, both on PC and consoles.
The September release will combine new content, features, and improvements that have already rolled out on PC over the past year.
It will also include new content arriving at the same time across PC and consoles.
This means players on all platforms can experience the most complete version of survival on Arrakis.
Console Version Targets Smooth Performance
The console version will keep the same core experience as PC.
However, the controls and UI have been adjusted for console play.
Dune: Awakening will also support 60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X through Performance Mode.
This should help make exploration, combat, crafting, and survival feel smoother on consoles.
For a large open-world survival game, responsive controls and stable performance are important.
The console version appears designed to make the harsh world of Arrakis feel accessible without losing its depth.
Full Single-player Mode Arrives
One of the biggest additions is a full Single-player mode.
Players will be able to experience Dune: Awakening alone, with difficulty options and different gameplay customization settings.
This is a major feature for players who prefer survival games without forced multiplayer pressure.
It also gives fans a way to enjoy the world, story, crafting, and exploration at their own pace.
Whether players want a personal journey or a larger multiplayer war, the September update offers more flexible ways to play.
Book One Story Gets A Complete Ending
The console launch also brings the complete conclusion of Book One.
This will close the cinematic story arc of Dune: Awakening.
Players will be able to experience the full narrative from beginning to end.
This gives the game a stronger story foundation for new players arriving through consoles.
It also gives returning PC players more reason to revisit the game when the September update arrives.
For a title based on one of sci-fi’s most influential universes, a complete story experience is a major part of the appeal.
More Freedom To Adjust Difficulty
Dune: Awakening will also let players adjust difficulty more freely.
Players can customize resource gathering rates, experience rates, and combat difficulty.
These options apply to both Single-player mode and private servers.
This lets players shape the game around their preferred pace.
Some may want a harsher survival challenge. Others may prefer a more relaxed adventure focused on story, exploration, or base building.
This kind of flexibility makes the game more welcoming for different playstyles.
Optional PvP And Better Endgame
New players on both PC and consoles will also receive features and improvements that have arrived since the game’s original PC launch.
One major update is optional PvP.
In multiplayer, players can enjoy a full PvE experience across the entire game, including the Deep Desert and faction conflicts.
The endgame has also been redesigned to offer a more balanced, immersive, and content-rich experience.
These changes should help reduce frustration while giving players more control over how they engage with the world.
Progression Systems Get More Protection
The update also improves long-term progression.
With vehicle backup and base reconstruction systems, multiplayer players can take longer breaks without worrying too much about losing progress.
This is important for survival games, where time away can sometimes feel punishing.
The new systems should make Dune: Awakening more friendly for players who cannot log in constantly.
It helps make the multiplayer experience feel less stressful while still preserving the survival fantasy.
PC Players Can Host Their Own Servers
Funcom is also adding self-hosted server support for PC players.
This means players can create their own servers without needing to rent one.
They can also customize gameplay settings freely for themselves and friends.
This is a strong feature for groups who want a private Arrakis experience.
With custom settings, players can adjust the world to match their preferred pace, difficulty, and survival style.
New Areas And Quality-of-Life Updates
The September update will also include additional new content.
The story will expand further, and new map areas will be added.
These areas will bring new challenges and rewards.
The update also includes many Quality of Life improvements.
These include character recustomization, removal of the tax system, and many other system improvements.
Together, these changes aim to make the game smoother, more rewarding, and easier to enjoy for both new and returning players.
The Polar Cap Arrives After September
Funcom also has more updates planned after September.
One of the biggest additions is a new survival map called The Polar Cap.
This new map is set near the pole of Arrakis and will be close in size to Hagga Basin.
It will be released for free later this year.
The Polar Cap will add new content and survival systems.
This means the game will continue expanding beyond the console launch window.
For players who want more long-term survival content, this roadmap is promising.
Xbox Game Pass And Xbox Play Anywhere Support
Funcom also announced that Dune: Awakening will be available on Xbox Game Pass starting September 22.
The game will fully support Xbox Play Anywhere.
This lets players move between Xbox and the Microsoft Store version while sharing progress across both platforms.
The game will also support ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
These features give players more ways to access the game across devices and platforms.
For Xbox players, this makes Dune: Awakening even easier to enter on launch day.
First PlayStation 5 Gameplay Revealed
Funcom also showcased the first PlayStation 5 gameplay during Sony’s State of Play.
This gave players an early look at how the console version performs before launch.
The showcase focused on giving players a clear preview of the console experience.
For players waiting to explore Arrakis on PS5, this was the first major gameplay look.
Survive And Rise On Arrakis
At its core, Dune: Awakening is an Open World Survival game.
Players begin by struggling to survive, then gradually rise toward power.
The game focuses on exploration, combat, crafting, and base building.
However, it also offers more than standard survival mechanics.
It combines cinematic storytelling, adventure elements, RPG systems, and different ways to play.
Players can enjoy the world alone, with friends on private servers, or through large multiplayer wars on official servers.
The path forward depends on the player’s own choices.

Dune: Awakening sounds like it is using the console launch as a major reset point. A full Single-player mode, optional PvP, complete Book One story, 60fps console support, Game Pass access, and future Polar Cap content make this feel much bigger than a simple port. Arrakis may be brutal, but at least players now get more ways to survive it.
