Marathon Game Director Joe Ziegler Confirms Departure from Bungie

Joe Ziegler has confirmed that he has officially left Bungie, marking another major leadership change for the studio’s upcoming extraction shooter Marathon.

According to a report from Video Games Chronicle, Ziegler has joined a new game studio after serving as Marathon’s game director during the latter stages of development.

New Leadership Takes Over Marathon

Following Ziegler’s departure, Del Chafe III, who previously served as the game’s assistant director, will now oversee development as the new game director. He will work alongside creative director Julia Nardin, whom Ziegler expressed confidence in to lead Marathon into its next chapter.

While Bungie has yet to provide additional details surrounding the transition, the change comes as the studio continues refining Marathon with ongoing updates and new gameplay content.

Questions Surround the Departure

It remains unclear whether Ziegler’s exit was connected to Bungie’s recent layoffs or if it was a personal decision. Neither Bungie nor Ziegler has publicly elaborated on the circumstances behind the departure.

Despite a decline from its initial player interest, Marathon continues to maintain an active community, with several thousand players regularly participating while Bungie continues supporting the game with new content and gameplay updates.
