Square Enix has revealed more details about the new Job system coming to Final Fantasy VII Revelation, confirming that each playable character will have access to only four Jobs. While the number may seem small compared to previous entries in the series, director Naoki Hamaguchi says the decision reflects the realities of modern game development.
The new FITS system allows characters to switch between different Jobs, giving players the freedom to customize their combat roles. For example, Tifa can take on the role of a Black Mage, allowing players to experiment with new party compositions and playstyles throughout the adventure.

Speaking about the system, Hamaguchi explained that creating multiple costumes, animations, abilities, and gameplay mechanics for every Job is far more demanding than in earlier Final Fantasy titles. While classic entries often featured dozens of Jobs, modern development requires significantly more work for each class variation.
He also noted that comparing Revelation to Final Fantasy XIV Online is difficult since the MMORPG follows a completely different development model. Instead, the team focused on ensuring that every available Job feels meaningful and fully developed.
Although each character is limited to four Jobs, Hamaguchi pointed out that the game’s full roster results in more than 20 unique Jobs overall. Players will also be able to combine up to 12 Jobs across a three-member party, creating plenty of opportunities for experimentation and strategic team building.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation serves as the concluding chapter of the remake trilogy. The story follows Cloud and his companions as they board the Highwind alongside Cid to pursue Sephiroth after the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The game introduces larger open-world environments, an expanded combat system, and new customization features.
The game is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
