Xbox Unveils New Strategy to Drive Growth Through 2027

Microsoft’s gaming division has outlined a new roadmap for Xbox following a challenging fiscal year that saw gaming revenue decline significantly. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared the company’s long-term vision, emphasizing innovation, player growth, and stronger investment in first-party experiences.

Building the Next Generation of Xbox

According to Sharma, Xbox will place renewed focus on its console business while expanding major gaming franchises beyond video games into films, television, merchandise, live experiences, and global partnerships. The company also plans to strengthen its presence in key markets, including China.

Xbox aims to achieve sustained double-digit player growth while reaching a major milestone in daily active users by 2030.

Minecraft Remains a Major Priority

One of the biggest investment areas will be Minecraft. Microsoft plans to transform the franchise into an even larger creator platform by improving creative tools, content sharing, audience-building features, and monetization opportunities for creators.

Turning Player Growth Into Business Growth

Although Xbox attracted more than 200 million new players during fiscal year 2026, revenue did not increase at the same pace. The company believes its new strategy will better convert engagement into long-term business growth while investing in experiences players value most.

Microsoft Supports the New Direction

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to reshaping its gaming business through investments in content, platforms, and operations. The restructuring follows recent workforce reductions and organizational changes designed to improve efficiency and position Xbox for long-term success.

Microsoft expects these initiatives to help return Xbox to sustainable growth by the end of fiscal year 2027.
