Square Enix has officially revealed Dragon Quest Monsters 4: The Withered World, the newest entry in the beloved monster-collecting RPG spin-off series.
The announcement arrived during the Dragon Quest 40th anniversary event, giving fans one more major surprise after the reveal of Dragon Quest XII Beyond Dreams. This new title follows the spirit of the Dragon Quest Monsters series, where players travel across fantasy worlds, recruit monsters, raise them, fuse them, and send them into battle.
Bianca and Nera Return in Childhood Form
One of the biggest highlights of Dragon Quest Monsters 4: The Withered World is the appearance of Bianca and Nera in their childhood forms.
Both characters are known from Dragon Quest V, and the teaser shows them wearing outfits that clearly reflect their classic color themes. Bianca appears in yellow clothing with a green cloak, while Nera wears a long pink dress with a blue bunny-ear ribbon.
For now, Square Enix has not revealed the full story. However, the appearance of these 2 characters already gives longtime fans a strong reason to pay attention.
A New Monster-Collecting RPG Adventure
The Dragon Quest Monsters series takes the traditional Dragon Quest RPG formula and shifts the focus toward monster collecting.
Instead of only building a party of human heroes, players search for monsters, recruit them as allies, raise them, fuse them, train them, and bring them into battle. Each entry usually brings its own story, new monster systems, and new ways to explore the world.
The previous title, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, already introduced several modern gameplay ideas, including faster action, a 3D world, and changing seasons. Because of that, many fans will now be watching closely to see how The Withered World builds on those systems.
Coming to Major Platforms
Dragon Quest Monsters 4: The Withered World is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The release date has not been announced yet. However, the source article suggests that pre-orders or online download availability may begin soon.
For now, fans may need to wait a little longer for deeper story details, gameplay systems, and launch timing.
Dragon Quest Monsters 4: The Withered World feels like a strong reveal because it brings back a fan-favorite spin-off at the perfect moment. The childhood versions of Bianca and Nera add instant nostalgia, while the monster-collecting formula still has plenty of room to grow on modern platforms. If Square Enix expands the systems from The Dark Prince while giving this new entry a stronger world and story, this could become a major RPG title to watch.
