Metal Gear Solid 4 Master Collection Still Includes iPod and Playboy Book
It will not be much longer before Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots finally breaks its long-running exclusive wall after almost 20 years. This means players on other platforms, including Xbox and Nintendo Switch, will finally get to experience one of the hardest-to-play entries in the legendary spy series.
Back when the game first launched, it included several unique details tied closely to its original platform era. These included memorable dialogue, special items, and small gameplay touches that fans still remember today.
New Details From the Upcoming Port
X user Synth Potato shared new details about the upcoming port of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.
According to the information, the game targets 4K resolution and 60FPS on PlayStation 5. Textures and text have also been upscaled to look clearer on high-resolution displays.
The game will also add new control options to better match modern platforms. Other small QoL improvements, such as faster loading screens, are also expected.
iPod and Playboy Book Are Still Included
One interesting detail is that content some players worried might be removed due to licensing concerns still appears to remain in the game.
This includes the iPod and Playboy book, both of which will still keep their original functions. The iPod can be used to listen to special music, while its control method still requires analog stick movement similar to scrolling a Click Wheel.
Meanwhile, the Playboy book can still be used to distract enemy soldiers.
However, one detail fans may still want to watch for is whether the famous line “We’re on a PS3” will remain unchanged, get censored, or be adjusted for modern platforms.
About Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is a collection of famous Metal Gear Solid titles improved for modern consoles. The package includes Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker in one collection.
It also includes the bonus game Ghost Babel from Game Boy Color. Players can also enjoy galleries and soundtracks, including rare artwork and behind-the-scenes details through the Database mode.
The collection is scheduled to launch on 27 August for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Pre-orders are now available.
About Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots takes place 5 years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2. The story follows Solid Snake, whose body begins aging rapidly.
Snake decides to fight Liquid Ocelot and take down The Patriots. This version improves the game’s visuals and sound, but it will not include online features, so the focus stays on the main single-player experience.
Metal Gear Solid 4 finally reaching modern platforms is already a big moment for fans, but keeping details like the iPod and Playboy book makes the release feel closer to the original experience. The real question now is whether Konami will keep every iconic platform-specific line intact, especially the famous PS3 reference.
